Dutch Far-Right Government Sworn in
Coalition of PVV, VVD, New Social Contract and Farmer Party Takes Power
The Netherlands swore in its first far-right government on Tuesday, more than seven months after an election sent shock waves through the Dutch.
The new government is a coalition of the Freedom Party (PVV), the Peoples Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), the New Social Contract (NSC), and the Farmer Party.
The King and the ministers together make up the Government of the Netherlands. The ministers and state secretaries are responsible for the day-to-day running of the country.
The Role of the Monarch
The monarch only plays a role in the appointment of the ministers and state secretaries. Once they are appointed, the ministers and state secretaries are responsible for their own actions.
The monarch is also the head of state and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
